Electric cars are the future.

They reduce carbon emission but they still take up space, noisy above 40km/h.

At 2:24, electric cars have more rare materials in them and these materials require a lot of CO2 to mine them. They will only become more environmentally friendly around three or five years of ownership.

At 8:55, electric cars are heavy. This increases the damage done on roads.

At 13:24, electric cars are worse at high speeds because tire noise increases with weight. Electric cars weigh more than normal cars.

A comment that compiles all the dangerous incidents that has happened with Teslas.

Tesla’s quality control is truly a sight to behold. Like some seriously messed up stuff;

  1. The roof of a Model Y flew off
  2. The roof also tends to leak on the Y
  3. The Model 3 also tends to leak
  4. The Model X also tends to shed parts
  5. There’s the general shoddy nature of the trim within Teslas
  6. Model Y owners have even found components being held together by fake wood
  7. This one’s a personal favorite of mine, Tesla told a customer that a broken rear subframe was normal wear & tear

I of course have not mentioned Tesla’s catching on fire killing its drivers which may be of some concern given that the Model 3 does not have a manual rear door release. Nor have I mentioned that it’s Self Driving has caused deaths on the road.

All of this is to say that you should avoid Tesla’s because they are the car manufacturer with the most problems in America.

Electric Vehicles Won’t Save Us – Streetsblog USA

Electric cars are better than gas powered cars, but they’re still cars. Sure it’s nice to replace all gas powered cars with electric cars, but that’s only part of the fight. The real fight is cars vs the environment and the people. Car focused infrastructure is vehemently opposed to better environment and better lives for people by design.

Electric Vehicles' Battery Problem - YouTube - Wendover Productions

Electric vehicles require lithium. But there’s no green way to mine lithium. Someone somewhere will pay the effects of these mining [4:45]. You also need cobalt to build the battery tech and these are mined unethically in the Republic of Congo.

The only way to not require these type of minerals is to not have electric vehicles be our solution. We need to shift our focus to public transportation, walkability and bikability.

If every internal combustion engine car is converted to electric cars, you would need to mine a lot more lithium, cobalt and copper. These mining introduces a lot of environmental problems as well. The better way to solve the climate crisis is to move towards public transportation, walkability and bikability. These public transportation needs to be affordable and extensive.

Cutting down on the exhaust fumes is great but they still cause pollution from tire wear and brake wear.
